I love working with students. They are the best part of my job.

I began teaching in FWCS as a substitute teacher in 1995 and became a full-time teacher the following year. I was a classroom teacher, reading interventionist, building instructional coach and district coach before entering administration. I have been at Towles in an administrative role since 2015. I was an assistant principal for two years before becoming principal.

I received my bachelor’s degree in 1993 from the University of North Dakota while my husband was stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base. I completed my Master’s degree in 2011 from Western Governors University.

My first exposure to Montessori education was an observation during my student teaching. I was amazed both by the learning environment and the content that the students were learning. I was impressed with the independence that the students exhibited, but it was the math materials that made me fall in love with Montessori. I quickly knew that I wanted that learning environment, both for myself and my children. In my early days of teaching, I often integrated Montessori ideas into my traditional classroom. Later, I was trained in the Montessori method and taught for several years at Bunche in the early childhood classroom. I first learned about New Tech and project-based learning as a parent. I observed my child’s confidence and desire to learn grow through the projects presented in New Tech. The Montessori and New Tech programs complement one another and help students grow into compassionate, global citizens.

Through the experience of being a parent, a teacher and now an administrator at Towles, I can truly say that we create a unique community of families from all over Fort Wayne. We develop a unique connection with one another. We become a family at Towles.

I am married and have six children—all of whom have reaped the benefits of the learning environments at Bunche and Towles. When away from school, I enjoy spending time with my family. I love to read and listen to music. I feel very blessed that I have nearly all of my extended family living nearby, which enables us to spend time together. My family and I enjoy traveling and have a list of places to visit. One of our favorite family vacation spots is Disney World.
