New Tech Network is a national network of schools that implement Project-Based Learning (PBL).  Towles Middle School and a portion of Wayne High School are members of this network.  Within the New Tech model, facilitators aim to design real-world projects that incorporate deep learning and authenticity for students.  Our school culture is based on the principles of Trust, Respect, and Responsibility.  In addition to teaching content knowledge, New Tech schools also emphasize student agency, collaboration, oral communication, and written communication.

To begin a project, facilitators create an entry event to introduce students to the topic/problem.  For most projects, students work in small teams, create their own team contracts, and assign roles to divide the work.  Throughout a project students generate a list of “Knows” (knowledge they already possess) and “Need to Knows” (knowledge they need to gain during the project) to help guide their learning.  Facilitators offer small group workshops to support student learning throughout a project.  Each project consists of benchmarks that allow students and their facilitators to track progress.  At the end of each project students participate in a culminating event or present a culminating product to demonstrate their learning. 

After completing 8th grade, students transition into the New Tech Academy at Wayne High School for grades 9-12.  However, students may choose to attend a different FWCS high school by completing the appropriate lottery/transfer documents.
